I have been painting with a goal of increasing the luminosity of the surface of my paintings lately and I see this one as fulfilling that goal. I concentrated on an intertwining composition of the arbutus tree trunks but then worked patterns into the background and the tree surfaces.
I found my colours have become brighter which is not what I expected with the death of my mother in December. When my brother Rob died a number of years ago I painted with quite subdued colours and this is what I thought would happen agian. Instead I have gone the other way, perhaps as a personal celebration of my Mom and her encouragement to explore more of a colour range.
