Dave was born in Campbell River on Vancouver Island. He has lived across Canada and in Italy plus he has traveled to Europe, Cuba, China and Romania. He currently lives in Nanaimo, BC with his wife. Together they have five grown children.

Dave studied art at VCC Langara where he received a Two Year Art Diploma after which he went on to complete his Bachelors in Secondary Art Education from UBC. Later he went back to UBC and the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design for additional studio courses. Dave taught art in the Delta School system for 30 years. He left teaching in 2012 and is working as an artist/illustrator.
